One Greenpeace activist to return to court [Tribune-Review]

One of the 14 Greenpeace activists arrested yesterday scaling bridges to unfurl banners plans to ask an Allegheny County judge today for a reduction in his bail after he was jailed on an outstanding warrant from Japan.

Jonathan Batchelor, 31, of Portland, Ore., was detained on $75,000 bail after prosecutors last night informed District Judge Carla Swearingen that he was wanted in Japan.  More...

Climate Change: Off the G-20 Agenda? [The Nation]

Tuesday afternoon, US District Court Judge Gary Lancaster rejected a request by the ACLU of Pennsylvania and the Center for Constitutional Rights for an injunction against the Pittsburgh Police. The lawyers alleged in the suit that local law enforcement has been systematically harassing and carrying out unconstitutional searches and seizures of members of two G-20 protest groups--the Seeds of Peace Collective and the Three Rivers Climate Convergence (3RCC). The judge refused to restrain the police and suggested that if police conduct warrants damages claims, then the ACLU should file suit. The ACLU says it will pursue such claims.  More...

I'm thrilled because I feel like months of hard-work on climate advocacy around the world is paying off right now, big time. Just take a glance at the reports from around the world pouring in from the Global Climate Wake-Up Call.

Today in Pittsburgh, I helped organize a wake-up call flash mob, which was swamped by media all hungry for the story on G20 protests. We delivered with a perfectly executed action with dozens of media outlets, live TV and some pretty clear visuals: We need climate action from world leaders in Copenhagen.

Breaking news: Gordon Brown says he will encourage other world leaders to attend the Copenhagen Climate negotiations. He is the first major world leader to commit to the historic conference.

Today, the Avaaz Action Factory is hosting a global climate wake-up call event.

A 'flash-mob' of people will converge on sleeping G20 leaders today at 12:18 to wake them up to the need for bold climate action. Gordon Brown is expected to be in attendence. Citizens will converge with their cell phone alarms held high, waking up the world leaders with a quick chant, followed by a photo-op.  More...
